SUSU Art Contest

Who is the art contest for?

Children and youth 4-23 years of age whose parent has ever been incarceratedare are eligible to participate.

What can be submitted?

Art, poems, and photos on any topic.  We welcome art related to the experience of having a parent who is or has been incarcerated. 

Visual Art 

This includes:

  • Paintings (watercolor, acrylic, tempera, poster, spray, etc.)
  • Drawings (pencil, pen, color pencil, marker, charcoal, pastel, etc.) and digital illustrations
  • Collages and photography
  • Three-dimensional art (origami, clay sculpture, etc.) 

Size and File Requirements:

  • For this category, please submit a PHOTOGRAPH of your visual art.
  • Photo files must not be larger than 50mb
  • Photo files must be .jpg or .png

Performance Art

This includes: 

  • Dance
  • Singing/Rap
  • Music
  • Poetry reading
  • Monologue
  • etc. 

Size and File Requirements

  • For this category submit a RECORDING of your performance art. 
  • Videos must be at least 45 seconds to 3 minutes. 
  • Video files must not be larger than 100mb 
  • Video files must be .mp4, .mov, and .wmv 

Artistic Writing

This includes: 

  • Short stories
  • Blogs
  • Poetry
  • Other creative writing

Size and File Requirements

  • For this category, submit your original short story, blog or poem. 
  • Text should be typed. Youth who cannot type may have their work typed by someone else.
  • Written work must be at least 3 lines to 3.5 pages in length.
  • Document files must be submitted as a .doc or .pdf 

 

What will you do with my art? 

Your art will be displayed on the Children of Incarcerated Parents National Conference app – with your first name and your age. It will be visible throughout the conference – April 14, 21, and 28th, 2021. It will also be displayed on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. We will delete the file you submitted immediately after the conference ends.  

When are the entries due? 

Entries are due by 11:59 pm MST, April 13, 2020

How do I submit my file?

Upload your file and submssion form to the SUSU Art contest folder using the button below.
If you are under 18, please make sure your parent signs your entry form.

Is there a prize?

Yes! There will be prizes awarded to one person in each age category and art category (visual, performance and artistic writing). 

 

How will the entries be judged?

Art will be judged in age groups.
4-6, 7-10, 11-13, 14-18, and 19-23 year-old

 

What will you do with my contact information?

Your contact information will be used ONLY for the purpose of contacting you to let you know if you won  a prize and to send it to you. We will not give your contact information to anyone and we will delete it once the prizes are sent out.
