The goal of these presentations is to bring together people from all facets of child well-being in an informal atmosphere to collaborate and learn about programs and practices that positively affect children. Beyond the Statistics: We Are Not the Story You Have Made of Us. 

 

Join mothers and their children-who are Alumni of the Family Preservation Project; an intensive family reunification program serving women incarcerated at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, and their children, for a screening of Brian Lindstrom's powerful short documentary film,“Like a Shield” followed by a panel discussion. 

 

Through this presentation, we will unpack the age-old statistics around children of incarcerated parents and highlight what is possible for youth when we intervene.

Together from the Beginning: Early Head Start and the Residential Parenting Program at the Washington Corrections Center for Women

From pregnancy through release from prison, mothers and their infants/toddlers live together in the Residential Parenting Program at the Washington Corrections Center for Women. Learn about the unique 22-year collaboration between Puget Sound Educational District/Early Head Start and the Washington State Department of Corrections from the staff who work in the program. Learn how the partnership has adjusted to continue delivering support and services during the pandemic. Most importantly, mothers who have participated in the program will share their thoughts regarding what they and their child experienced, and the impact it has had on their lives.
